Got the switch today and made the repair to, I believe, a X-Acto purchased at a BBS some years ago. I determined that the problem was with the momentary switch. I researched buying a replacement but all had a similar issue. That being, the unit did not last long. So I opted to try a repair. The only thing I had to be sure of was the depth of the switch. After all, there's only so much room inside the sharpener housing. After making some initial measurements, I decided that the Apiele momentary switch should fit. With the repair completed, the sharpener is back in business. The only downside is the need to hold/release the switch to start the cut and end it when the pencil is the right sharpness. Installation was easy. However, due to the switch design of the screw contacts I was limited in where I could install the switch and still have access to the terminal screws. I drilled a pilot hole and finished up with a 5/8" Fosner bit. Only time will tell how the switch holds up in usage.

I'm restoring my Heathkit SB-401 transmitter, and am switching to a classic Electro-Voice 664 microphone with the desk stand. I was looking for an ideal SPST push button to be the Push To Talk (PTT) when I came across this pushbutton. As you can see in the mock-up photo, it is the perfect dimensions for the base, and its stainless steel finish perfectly complements the microphone. It might require an additional O-ring to accomodate the curvature of the base, but that's easy to do. In summary, I'm glad I found this pushbutton and expect it to provide great service in the years to come!
